We caught up with Georgina Ross

Hi! I’m Georgina, and I was a finalist for the Undergraduate of the Year Award for Commercial Excellence in 2013. I received an email from TARGETjobs advertising the opportunity to ‘Win an internship with Nestlé’ and decided I had nothing to lose!

After making it through the interview stages, I was selected as a finalist and invited to the award ceremony in Canary Wharf. It was an amazing day, with the awards presented by Trevor McDonald!

Following this, I was offered a summer internship with Nestlé in their UK Headquarters. I joined the Sales Operations and Executions team in Nestlé Professional (the B2B division), working with a wide portfolio of Nestlé brands from confectionery to coffee. During the 3 months, I launched a Lead Generation project with two external agencies, attended sales pitches with high profile customers, went to Thorpe Park for a product research day and even organised a flashmob for the annual conference! The overall experience was fantastic and I learnt a huge amount about working within a multinational corporation. At the end of the summer I was required to present my recommendations for the business to the Senior Leadership Team, and as a result was offered a place on the Graduate Scheme for 2014, following my final year of University.

My first role as a Graduate was in Sales as a New Business Manager. I had a territory from London to Brighton, and was required to manage existing accounts within that area, as well as hunt out new business opportunities. Working on my own meant I had to get to know the product range very quickly and learn to think on my feet!

In my second year, I took on the role of Activation Manager for the Beverage Solutions team. This involved Brand Marketing across the Hot and Cold Beverage range, and drinking a lot of NESCAFÉ!

After completing the scheme last summer, I moved into the role of Digital Marketing and CRM Manager. In this role I manage our Email Marketing Campaigns, and work on the Digital Media strategy for all of our brands in the Out of Home Market. Throughout my time at Nestlé I’ve covered a wide range of roles which has allowed me to experience different areas of the business and understand where I want to focus my career. For me this is Digital Marketing so I’m looking forward to future roles in Digital.

If I was to give one piece of advice to anyone currently at University, it would definitely be to join a club or society. Showing employers that you’ve taken part in something interesting outside of your studies really makes your CV stand out from the competition, and it can also really make your Uni experience! I met some of my closest friends through my dance society, and my experiences as a committee member were extremely helpful throughout the interview process with Nestlé.

Where are they now?

Having completed the Graduate Scheme, I have continued to work for Nestlé as a Digital Marketing and CRM Manager.
