Back in 2014, in my first year at the University of Birmingham, I made it into the top 20 for Management UOGY. It was so useful for interview technique and I was really proud to get to this stage whilst competing against undergraduates who had an age and work experience advantage. Although I didn't make it to the final, my interviewer was impressed with my interview and passion which led to me still being offered a summer internship with Enterprise Rent a Car. The UGOY awards gave me this opportunity which is so rare for a first year undergraduate to gain. I was also able to continue to work for ERAC as a campus brand manager in my second and final year at university.
Following my success with ERAC in my second year, I ambitiously submitted an application for the Future Business Leader UGOY with Mars. This time I was lucky enough to make the top 10!! The whole experience was amazing. All of the candidates met at M&M world in London to be welcomed with a guard of honour from the staff. We then moved onto the awards at Canary Wharf, which is an event I will always remember. There were so many opportunities for networking with many business leaders all in one room. This is how I managed to gain a summer internship with Mars, after speaking about my future plans to numerous directors and senior leaders. Once again, this internship allowed me to learn so much about working for a global company but also taught me a lot about myself.
After graduating from University in 2016, I am now on the Virgin Media Business graduate scheme. I am 100% sure that I would not be in this position if it wasn't for UGOY!
Where are they now?
